As part of our Positive Pawprint strategy, we’re committed to increasing our sustainability efforts and reducing our energy use and carbon footprint. Recently, 70 Ontario practices were retrofitted with LED technology, and we’re excited to provide an update on progress.

Through our LED retrofitting project, not only will we save on energy usage, maintenance costs, and greenhouse gas emissions, we’re also creating better environments for our colleagues and clients and improving nighttime safety with brighter lighting outdoors. Modern lighting promotes a more pleasant work environment for our team members, improves conditions in our practices for DVMs to serve patients and is more aesthetically pleasing for our clients.

“Following the retrofit, team members noticed that the lights increased visibility in the treatment area, especially for dental surgeries. We have very high ceilings in our reception area, and it’s now brighter.

What I personally really loved was that we have updated lights outside! Our parking lot is quite long, and the staff all park in the very back. If we leave late, or during winter when the sun goes down early, it could be pretty dark and spooky outside. Now, we have bright lights that illuminate the lot and make it a lot safer.”

Fun fact: Energy Star certified LEDs are up to 90% more efficient than incandescent bulbs, and they last at least 15 times longer. Certified LEDs also produce almost no heat and are resistant to vibration, which cuts cooling and replacement costs.

The next phase of our LED retrofit project is planned for British Columbia and the Atlantic provinces, with 61 practices expected to be upgraded. We look forward to sharing future updates!
